Discurso Direto: Citar as palavras exatas de alguém, usando aspas (" "). Ex: She said, "I am tired."

Discurso Indireto (Reportado): Relatar o que alguém disse com suas próprias palavras, sem aspas. Isso causa mudanças na frase. Ex: She said that she was tired.

1. Backshift of Tenses (Mudança nos Tempos Verbais)

Quando o verbo de reporte (said, told) está no passado, o tempo verbal da fala original "dá um passo para trás" no passado.

2. Mudança de Pronomes e Advérbios

Palavras que indicam proximidade (no tempo e espaço) também mudam para refletir a nova perspectiva.

• Pronomes: "I like your car." -> He said that he liked my car.
• Tempo/Lugar: `today` -> `that day`, `tomorrow` -> `the next day`, `yesterday` -> `the day before`, `now` -> `then`, `here` -> `there`.

3. Reportando Afirmações, Perguntas e Ordens

• Afirmações: Usam as regras de backshift. Ana said, "I will go." -> Ana said that she would go.
• Perguntas: A frase vira uma afirmação (sem inversão) e é introduzida por if/whether (para perguntas de sim/não) ou pela Wh-word.
  "Are you busy?" -> He asked if I was busy.
  "Where do you live?" -> She asked me where I lived.
• Ordens/Pedidos: Usa-se a estrutura verbo + objeto + to + verbo.
  "Close the door." -> He told me to close the door.
  "Don't be late." -> She asked us not to be late.

4. Exceções ao Backshift

O tempo verbal NÃO muda se:

• A afirmação é um fato universal ou verdade geral (The Earth is round).
• A situação reportada ainda é verdadeira no presente (He said his brother is a doctor).
• O verbo de reporte está no presente (She says she will be there).
